How long can you stay in each Schengen country?

The answer is the same everywhere — 90 days in any rolling 180 — because the allowance is shared across all 29 countries rather than granted per country. What differs is when each joined, what sits outside its borders, and where you would realistically go when the days run out.

The list changed recently — twice

Croatia joined in 2023, and Bulgaria and Romania completed accession when their land borders opened on 1 January 2025. Any guide written before then treats those three as places where your days do not count. They now do — which is the most common reason a traveller’s own arithmetic is quietly wrong.
